Mona Lisa painter Leonardo da Vinci was solely half-Italian and his mom was a slave who was trafficked to Italy from the Caucasus area, new analysis has claimed.
Carlo Vecce, who research Da Vinci’s life and work, unveiled the findings in Florence on the launch of his new e book.
Consultants have largely agreed that Da Vinci’s mom was referred to as Caterina and the artist was born in 1452.
His father was stated to be a younger Florentine notary referred to as Ser Piero da Vinci.
Past these particulars, there was little proof to help plenty of theories about Da Vinci’s background.
However now Mr Vecce has claimed to have discovered a beforehand unknown doc written by Ser Piero da Vinci within the State Archives in Florence.
The doc is dated November 1452 – when the longer term painter and Italian cultural icon would have been six months outdated – and is an act of liberation of a slave referred to as Caterina by Monna Ginevra.
Monna was the spouse of a “Florentine adventurer”, who was the proprietor of slaves from the Black Sea area.
Mr Vecce stated the doc was written by the identical man “who beloved Caterina” when she was a slave and gave her a baby and helped to set her free.
He instructed NBC Information: “Once I noticed that doc I could not imagine my eyes.
“I by no means gave a lot credit score to the speculation that she was a slave from overseas.
“So, I spent months making an attempt to show that the Caterina in that notary act was not Leonardo’s mom, however ultimately all of the paperwork I discovered went into that path, and I surrendered to the proof.”

He added: “On the time many slaves had been named Caterina, however this was the one liberation act of a slave named Caterina Ser Piero wrote in all his lengthy profession.
“Furthermore, the doc is filled with small errors and oversights, an indication that maybe he was nervous when he drafted it, as a result of getting another person’s slave pregnant was against the law.”
The Caucasus area between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea consists of elements of southern Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.
